The Freshwater Society and Capitol Region Watershed District will continue their lecture series Nov. 3-4 with “Protecting Surface Waters in Agricultural Watersheds” by William Stowe, chief executive officer and general manager of Des Moines Water Works. Learn how the Des Moines Water Works mission is to provide safe, affordable and abundant drinking water. This lecture will explore the complexities of meeting this mission in an area of intense agriculture. Based on the premise that upstream pollutants do have downstream costs, the lecture and discussion will focus on how systems might change to reflect this impact.
The Nov. 3 lecture will be in St. Paul at the University of Minnesota Student Center at 7 p.m. with a reception and discussion preceding at 5:30 p.m. The Nov. 4 lecture will be in Mankato at the City Center Hotel at 3 p.m. with a reception and discussion following at 4:30 p.m. at the Mankato Brewery.
There is no admission charge for either lecture site, but registration on the society’s website is requested.
