Uniquely Minnesotan

Since 1936, MWF has worked specifically on conservation issues that affect Minnesota. From Warroad to Winona, if it’s happening in conservation MWF wants to know about it. Although we are at home in the North, our direct ties to the National Wildlife Federation Affiliate network keeps us informed and connected to conservation developments nationwide. All donations made to MWF stay in state and support our conservation work in Minnesota.

Broad Focus
Big Impact

No one species, landscape, or constituency drives our work. We take a holistic view of conservation and work to address relevant issues where our work can have the greatest impact. This allows MWF to uniquely act as a conservation coalition builder and provides the opportunity to work alongside a broad array of NGO and State partners to achieve conservation successes.

Fish Forage Hunt

Many of MWF’s directors and supporters enjoy hunting, fishing, and foraging activities alongside birdwatching, photography, hiking and myriad other pursuits that bring them to Minnesota’s outdoor spaces. Our knowledge of fishing, foraging, and hunting issues elevates our advocacy and engagement while our broad appreciation for outdoor recreation and conservation efforts makes MWF an organization welcoming to all Minnesotans.

Clean Water

Minnesota is more than the land of 10,000 lakes. Winding rivers, creeks and streams, prairie wetlands, and unique bog environments all contribute to amazing water resources within and along the states borders. Depending on where a drop of rain falls it may start a journey across one of three continental watersheds. These tremendous water resources come with great responsibility.

Clean water is a primary advocacy goal of MWF as it touches all other areas of our work.

Equitable Access

MWF works to ensure that access to public lands and waters remains open to all while providing pathways to participation to outdoor recreation for underserved communities. When Minnesotans find their place in the outdoors they become conservation stakeholders and are better able to advocate on behalf of our shared natural resources.

There is enough room outside for all Minnesotans.

Resource Advocacy

MWF stays focused on issues related to the natural resources of the state. At times this resource advocacy may take place at the State Capitol, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, in coalition with conservation organizations, and with individual Minnesotans who are willing to stand up for conservation.

The health of the states wildlife, people, and landscapes are of utmost importance to MWF as we continue our legacy of resource advocacy.
