Duluth, Minn. – On Oct. 15, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) staff will provide information and take comments about a draft air emissions operating permit for Mag Mining, LLC – Plant 4. This permit is needed to meet federal and state air quality requirements.
The public informational meeting will be held at Bovey City Hall, 402 Second St, in Bovey, Minn. An open house is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. It will be followed by the draft permit presentation and time for questions and comments.
Mag Mining’s Plant 4 conducts mining operations at existing tailings basins and operates a processing facility in Bovey. Scram mining, the type of mining done at this facility, produces usable iron ore from previously developed stockpiles or leftover materials. The facility processes the iron ore, then ships the product to manufacturing plants where it is made into a variety of steel products.
Public comments will be accepted for 30 days between Sept. 25 and Oct. 26, 2015. Comments made at the meeting and before the start of the comment period will be included in the draft permit’s administrative record. Written comments made during the comment period will be responded to by MPCA permit staff.
